Lesson learned.

It is absolutely true that doing the right thing should always be the road to take.

However, if you do the right thing and it makes no difference; if all it does is generate some kind of unforeseen confrontation; if no one heeds a warning given - then "doing the right thing" becomes a moot point.

At least I know this now.
