...Superman's Dead, Erich, and political debating...

*Sorry, Hizzy; had to do it. Superman's Dead is a song by a band called Our Lady Peace, off of their 1997 release album Clumsy.*

Christopher Reeve died. I remember watching him in the Superman movies, which are among my favorite comic book movies ever. My top list of comic movies goes like this:

1. Spiderman movies
2. Superman movies
3. Spawn
4. X-Men
5. Batman movies (except Batman & Robin)
6. Punisher
7. Daredevil
(The Hulk movie just sucked...)

He’s also in a bunch of other really good flicks, including “Village of the Damned”, “Rear Window” (1998 TV remake), “Deathtrap”, “The Muppets Go Hollywood”, and “Noises Off.” Rest in peace, Mr. Reeve…you will be missed.

I (finally) watched Fahrenheit 9-11 on Sunday. If I didn’t dislike Bush before, I do more so now. There WERE some cheap shots in the movie by Michael Moore that can tend to reduce the shimmer of his point, but I am one to look past insults to the meat of the matter. Not surprisingly, the meat stinks. I’m going to wear black if Bush is re-elected. That’s not a joke.

I’m going to invite Erich to go to karaoke with me on Thursday and have some beers. Why do I do this to myself? Because I’m too fair, that’s why. But, at least if things go completely sour (as if they haven’t already; he’s now calling me an asshole), I know for a solid, 100% fact that I did all a man could do and more. It will definitely not be a lack of effort on my part, that’s for damn sure. The big question is: would he actually come? I don’t know…the 8-Ball part of my brain says “Signs Point To No” – but hey, intuitive as that part of me may be, Erich might just prove it wrong. We shall see.

There’s a lot of anti-Kerry stuff being posted about by Jay Winkleman (= Dante Claracuzio) on the Council Chambers. Oh well – he’s an idiot anyway.

I still have no idea what is going on for Halloween. Heather and I talked about doing something at our place; I suppose we could also ask Joe was he plans to do. I’d definitely like something to be going on party-wise for Halloween. Watch horror films, whatever. Eat candy. Drink liquor that tastes like candy. Etcetera.

There’s debate a-plenty on the above-mentioned Council right now. Surprisingly, I’m winning (I think). And, I’ve come to find out that I have Quill-supporters on there, several of them. It’s pretty cool, actually. Wander on over there and check out the posts that generated THESE responses from me:

“Jay, you're portfolio looks so good because you're in a higher economy bracket than the guy who has to struggle to feed and clothe his kids. You don't have to worry about health insurance, or finding that first job with no experience out of school. So of course, you sit back in your new car and look at the numbers on paper and think to yourself, "Just what's wrong with Bush, Quill?" Everything looks good on paper, when written properly - even Communism. Your little Wall-Street reports don't tell you about the other 70% plus of the nation.

And it's really easy to SAY you'd walk into war no matter WHY we're at war, but I'd love to see you actually do it, go there, stay there for years, and then come back and honestly tell the rest of us that it was 200% right to be there in the first place. I don't think a man with a conscience and any heart would be able to say that. I don't think a man of conviction could return from this and say that NOTHING was wrong with it, despite any good that results from it. However, that being said, I am address that fact to a man who plays women and is proud to do it. So, it's either you're full of shit; or you're telling the truth and you're just that kind of person - without heart or conscience. Oh, I'm sorry...did I just peg your character to a tee? My sincerest of apologies, sir...

A vote for Bush is a vote against America. I hate to say that about a man who stepped up to the plate after 9-11, but it's true.”

“Oh that's right...now you start in bashing Kerry's service record. Let me tell you something, Jason - John Kerry actually WENT to war. Bush got out of it. Kerry defended the USA in Vietnam, and then came back to the US afterwards and slandered the war; and that was right of him to do, because the entire Vietnam war was BULLSHIT. We shouldn't have been over there. He, like Shark, went because he had signed up. Bush didn't do that. Bush wouldn't go to war if you paid him. Bush has led a silver-spoon life.

I never said Saddam should be back in power; that's you putting words in my mouth. Kerry never said that either; again, you (and Bush) putting words in his mouth. I suggest you get some better arguments.”

“Just to clear the record, Jay (Dante); what valid information did you bring to the table other than that John Kerry is a man that adapts in light of new information? Oh wait, I forgot, that's called 'flip-flopping' in your eyes, ins't it? Tell me, do you believe that Bush did the right thing in all instances of this war? Do you even think he would admit it if he believed he made a mistake? I don't think he would. I think he'd defend this war if GOD himself came down and told him it was a bad call. And, being a republican, you would do the same, obviously. It's real easy for you to say this war is a good idea; you aren't the one having to go away to fight it. You aren't the one affected by it. All you see is numbers in the stock exchange.

I'd be willing to bet solid money on the fact that you'd change your mind if it was YOU going to war, or better yet, your kids, or your family. Especially if it's a war that is unnecessary. If Bush institutes a draft (and it's highly possible), and you get called to go to Iraq, I'll be right there to document and note YOUR 'flip-flopping' on that issue...”

It’s recently come to my attention that I am seen as a lobbyist for my opinions. As in, I try to get others to share my views and opinions. For instance, I don’t like someone, so I try to get others not to like said person. That’s false. Completely false. I don’t want to be followed or copied or emulated in my personal choices. I never tried to turn public or group opinions against anyone. I have never done that. True, I lobby for Kerry, but that’s a tad different than trying to make everyone hate another friend.

Yet another long-winded post. Sorry, Heather, I know how much you hate having to read all of this. LOL That is, if you got through it at all.

You do like to rant, don't you? :p

At any rate, you should check out the new KMFDM (WW III). I think you'd appreciate the first track on the cd.
